MagazineLuciano Sandrone

Luciano brought the Sandrone family to beautiful Piemonte in 1977. With no previous generations or inherited vineyards, he made this place his home with full awareness and respect for his family, his vines and nature, light-hearted, giving the wines the space to tell their own story. Since the 1990s, the second generation, Barbara and Luca, have been part of the family business. Together, they now bring their values to the glass. Powerful and elegant, wise and far-sighted - the Sandrone family.

A wine from the heart - Cannubi Boschis becomes Aleste

The single vineyard Cannubi Boschis is Luciano's first vineyard in Barolo. 240m above sea level, with an ideal south-southeast exposure and optimal climatic conditions, the site is considered the cradle of the region with the greatest potential to produce top Nebbiolo. Since the 1985 vintage, he has been devoting special attention to this single vineyard and has achieved high international recognition for this wine.

Cannubi Boschi, known as Aleste since 2013, is a matter close to Luciano's heart. His awareness of the landscape in which he lives and of his family is deeply rooted, which is why he wanted to dedicate this wine to his grandchildren, Alessia and Stefano.

“ALEssia & STEfano united to create ALESTE“

Aleste is 100% Nebbiolo, fermented spontaneously in open steel vats and aged in 500l French oak barrels.

The wine year 2015: The 7 weeks of exceptional summer heat were ended by strong thunderstorms. The temperatures dropped and in early-mid October the grapes could be harvested with a perfect ripeness. The Aleste is well structured and rich in aromas, showing enormous power in its flavours and wooing with dark fruits like cherry, currant and raspberry. The fruit is supported by mineral and floral nuances such as liquorice root, white truffle and rose petals. On the palate, the Aleste is very balanced with a muscular structure, clearly defined and was able to develop excellent acidity thanks to cool autumn nights.

An intuition becomes a project - sibi et paucis

The sibi et paucis is neither a reserve nor a selection of the Aleste, it is Luciano's will to let Nebbiolo mature to perfection and then let it go out into the world at the right moment. Only the family and a few privileged wine lovers get to enjoy the sibi et paucis and witness the passion and patience for harmony in wine. True to the motto of achieving the highest quality only with time, Luciano stores 10% of the Aleste's production in his cellar for 6 more years.

The wine year 2009: It started with a snowy winter. The rainy spring ensured a good water supply, which is why there was no water stress despite the low rainfall and heat in August. We harvested fantastic grapes with a lot of potential at the beginning of October, declared as one of the best harvests of the last 10 years.

The wine presents itself mineral and dense, it quickly becomes more robust, more generous and opens up with each further sip. The dark black fruits paired with grated rosemary are typical of Cannobi Boschis. With only 900 bottles, this wine is a rare find indeed.
