Fairly deep color. Attractive nose is more subtle than flamboyant with sweet cassis fruit and a whiff of alcohol. Sweet, jammy, elegant, and well-rounded on the palate with particularly excellent acidity providing the thrust of the attack. The 1990 is nicely balanced with very good structure and matching fruit. On the other hand, it is not fleshy and this bottle shows the first signs of drying out. The higher alcohol level is also somewhat bothersome. The finish is long, but shows some coarseness. A small contingent of tasters thought the 1990 was spectacular, but that was a minority opinion.

A sexy wine that has gained somewhat since 1993 when we rated it 90 points. Not as powerful as the '88, nor as rich as the '85, this is still prototypical Sassicaia for its great complexity. Offers mineral, lead pencil, tar, cassis and black olive notes, solid backbone and firm, elegant finish.--Sassicaia vertical. 10,000 cases made.

Very dark, plush ruby, velvety look. This looks like a 1990 in Bordeaux would! Great ripe fruit and some graphite overlay. Delicate underneath. Just a little boiled out perhaps. I could imagine this was wonderful in its youth... But it is drying very slightly now, and the alcohol is showing a bit.
