From a west-facing slope at 150-160 meters above sea level and characterized by sediments like sand and shell limestone covering the quartzite bedrock, the 2017 Oestrich Klosterberg Riesling trocken offers an intense yellow-golden color and a corresponding ripe and yeasty-scented nose with ripe and intense fruit aromas interwoven with discreet earthy notes. Round but pure and straight, with tropical fruit aromas and a stunning raciness and crystallinity on the palate, this creamy-textured Riesling reveals some fine tannins and an intense, still young and promising finish with lingering salinity and a crystalline character. This is tight but still young and firm. Tasted in May 2019.
