Spicy pears and apples can be found in the nose of the 1999 Meursault Clos de La Barre. Medium-bodied and creamy-textured, this wine has an excellent depth of pears, candied apples, anise, nutmeg, and oak spices. It is plump, lush, and has an extensive finish.

A bit overdone, with some tropical, dried fig and spicy oak. Medium-bodied, it's appealing on the finish, which delivers good concentration. Drink now through 2005.

Very, very correct scent. Golden, broad, welcoming if low key. Full and quite rich for the vintage with marked acidity and nerve. Crackling green fruits and admirable texture.

The first bottle was definitely evolved and while not so badly that it was undrinkable, it was clearly not what it should have been. The second bottle displayed a deep yellow color and was also slightly evolved but not in the sense of premox. The fully mature nose displayed plenty of dried floral and dried yellow fruit aromas that were in keeping with the ripe, rich and solidly well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that coat the mouth with dry extract. The finish is quite dry, which provides an interesting contrast to the naturally sweet character of the mid-palate. This is a powerful vintage for this wine though one that has unquestionably arrived at its peak and I would be drinking this up over the next few years.
