86-88 / 100 Robert Parker Wow! Lynch Bages' 1993 reveals a thick, opaque purple color. The initial subdued aromas of earth, subtle red and black fruits, and oak, require coaxing to unleash. The wine's attack begins well, with a first impression of muscle, richness, body, and intensity, but a weakness in the mid-palate and a tannic ferocity quickly suggest the wine's extraction of fruit may not be sufficient. If this wine fills out, it will merit a rating in the upper eighties. If it does not, look for this to be a chunky, husky, frightfully tannic and tough wine that may evolve along the lines of this property's very good, but austere 1966. The 1993 needs 4-6 years of cellaring; it will last for 15+ years. Wine Advocate #97 Feb 1995
87 / 100 Wine Spectator Not big, but a lovely, harmonious Lynch-Bages featuring blackberry, cherry and vanilla aromas and flavors, medium body, fine tannins and fresh finish. Better in 1998. 35,000 cases made. –JS www.winespectator.com
