The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny is fantastic. It boasts incredible aromatic complexity, gorgeous textural finesse and seemingly endless layers of fruit. Suave yet firm tannins support the fruit through to the highly attractive, delineated finish. This is a great way to start a survey of the domaine’s 2010s. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2025. Long-time oenologist Francois Millet was away during my visit to Burgundy, so I can’t relay his always visually evocative thoughts on recent vintages. At the end of the day, though, these wines need no words; they speak for themselves, and then some. Commercial director Jean-Luc Pepin was kind enough to show me all of the 2010s and 2009s (from bottle), including the seldom seen Bourgogne Blanc. I will report on the 2009s in the April issue.

Very sinewy and energetic. Bone-dry finish and even a bit austere on the palate. But very much in the de Vogüé style. Bitter cherries on the front palate. Bracing finish. Impressive persistence suggests this may have a great future.

A very fresh, cool and airy nose of primarily red currant and stone introduces detailed and mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that possess refined tannins, all wrapped in a dusty, balanced and long finish. There is outstanding complexity and the 1ers in the blend contribute materially to the overall sense of sophistication plus this is already so refreshing that it's hard to resist.
