95 / 100 Robert Parker The 1999 Richebourg Grand Cru is very special, bursting from the glass with a lavish bouquet of raw cocoa, Asian spices, ripe plums, rose petal and potpourri. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and perfumed, with a gourmand, layered mid-palate, melting tannins and a long, beautifully delineated finish. In recent vintages, I've tended to prefer the Domaine's Romanée-Saint-Vivant to its Richebourg, but in 1999 it's the latter that has the edge. Interim Mid-July 2018, The Wine Advocate
95 / 100 Robert Parker Like all of the Leroy '99 grands crus, this is still quite youthful and in this case, still almost completely backward with a spicy, ripe and densely fruited but grudging nose that even several hours of aeration failed to completely liberate. The huge and equally dense full-bodied flavors are equally primary as they have, seemingly, lost none of the structure that I orginally saw in cask though I hasten to emphasize that neither is it hard, dry or aggressive, merely quite firm, all wrapped in a sappy and extract-suffused finish that goes on and on. This is perhaps somewhat less elegant than the best in the Leroy range as the tannins are a touch less refined but overall, this should be sensational in time (thought note that lots of time will be necessary). 96 / 100 Wine Spectator Ripe and bordering on jammy, with black cherry and plum flavors. What texture. Silky and full of sweet fruit, it's powerful and balanced, with a long finish. 19 / 20 Jancis Robinson Mid crimson, and much more convincing than the Richebourg 2010. Intense, rich, broad and explosive and exuberant. Stuffed full of dramatic ingredients with a mass of fine tannins lurking underneath. Hint of something (deliciously) fungal and a floral note too.
