Deep garnet-black colour. An incredible array of aromas on the nose: blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, espresso, leather, black olive and loam. The palate is absolutely seamless from first impression to finish, effortlessly building layers of complexity in the mouth and leading to a very long, earth and spice finish. I can’t see how this could possibly be improvement so have no alternative but concede perfection. Drink now to 2045+.

Ageless, yet balanced. Black color. Mint, mineral, berry and cherry. Full-bodied, chewy and tight. Long, long finish. A great, great wine.--Bordeaux retrospective. Drink now.

A bottle brought to dinner and decanted less than two hours before drinking. Black as night and very 'thick'. Tastes as though there were a strong dose of press wine in here. Not the most expressive bottle - but it had probably been shaken up a bit. There is certainly Pauillac rigour in spades. I remember sharing a bottle with Gerald Asher and the late Geoffrey Roberts at Clarke's restaurant when the wine was only a few years old and completely impenetrable. The tannins have now abated and there is a little bit of fine sediment. Very dry finish and not that much perfume on this particular bottle.
