The 1987 is undoubtedly a success for the vintage. It exhibits good cassis richness, a solid texture, and above average concentration and depth. The compact finish contains noticeable tannins.

Smells and tastes terrific, turning a bit tannic and tough on the finish, showing rich, ripe plum, prune and currant aromas and the same character when it hits the palate. But the finish clamps down with sharp tannins that will need until 1995 or so to soften. Tasted twice. –

Very dark crimson. Extremely concentrated, hint of treacle. Sweet start and then very fresh and still chewy. Seems quite youthful! Was there a lot of press wine in here? Rather like essence of 1987 red bordeaux. Lots of acidity and just a hint of greenness in here. Not a charmer but it’s impressive.
